From Europe the F1 is moving to Asia, although it is separated from Europe only by a few kilometres. The scene of the fifth event of the world mastership is Istanbul, thus a city, where meet the cultures of Europe and Asia. So the racers are expected not only by an interesting environment, but also by one of the most modern racing circuits. The Grand Prix takes part from Friday 9th till Sunday 11th May 2008.

The circuit

The official name of the circuit is Istanbul Park and it was opened in August 2005. It is located not far away to the east from Istanbul, but already in the Asian part. Although it is very modern, it is also very difficult. One of the reasons is for example that it is driven anti-clockwise, as only one of three races in 2008. This circuit also simply was built to be difficult. It is 5338 metres long and the width varies from 14 to 21,5 metres, while the average width is 15 metres. The race is run for 58 laps, thus its total length is 309.396 km.

The place

Turkey is a popular touristic country. It is a republic and its speciality comes out of the mixture of the West and the East. The country is rich due to its interesting nature, but it has got also big strategic importance due to its location. The time zone is UTC + 2 hours.

The results

The great condition already in qualification showed Felipe Massa from Ferrari, so he started from the first position and by right came for the victory. To the second place managed to fight Lewis Hamilton, who chose the strategy of three stops and after the last one he came out to the track just ahead of the Ferrari, which was driven by Kimi Räikkönen. He tried to get in front of Hamilton, but did not succeed and finished in the third place.
