F1 - Grand Prix de Monaco (Monte Carlo)
Monaco could be named as the capital city of Formula 1. It is the symbol of everything, what Formula 1 in fact is. Also many people connected now or in the past with F1 live in Monaco, and it slowly becomes also a technical problem when considering the small area of this principality. There is even not enough space to fit a real racing circuit and that is why the race takes place in the streets of one of its parts, in the city of Monte Carlo. One can even not talk about racing, there are no opportunities to overtake in the narrow streets and the formula pilots rushing at up to 300 km/h in the city are rather an amusement for the mighty inhabitants and the way to attract the sponsors. The Grand Prix takes part from Thursday 22nd May till Sunday 25th May 2008, when the main race is run.

The circuit

One cannot talk about a right racing circuit in the common sense, because the city circuit misses many ordinary, namely safety elements. But some racers claim, that the racing is not as dangerous as it seems, because in the narrow streets it is almost impossible to have frontal impact and the driver rather slides on the road barriers. But the track has already experienced many terrible accidents. The first race in Monte Carlo was run in 1929. Very interesting is also the situation, when every morning during the races the track is closed and in the evening opened again for ordinary traffic. To entertain the owners of the yachts the race leads around the coast. The track is 3340 metres long and the race is run for 78 laps, thus its total length is 260.520 km.

The place

On the photos Monaco seems to be a big country full of varied sights and interesting corners, but the reality is relentless. The area is poor 1.95 km2 and there are almost 33 thousands of inhabitants crowding there. Thanks to that it is the second most crowded independent area in the world, after one place in China. But from the building point of view it is used really exhaustively. The question of course is, whether such a concentration is caused by that it is such an attractive natural place, or that the inhabitants like themselves so much, or that they rather like their money considering the zero income tax, which against ordinary states, which consume about the half of the income, one cannot neglect for sure. Then the question states also if there are really so many people on such a small area or if they only have there their official home. Many photos and another material can be found directly on the touristic site of the principality, see the link below. The time zone is UTC + 1 hour.

The results

The race was according to the expectations full of collisions, to which also the heavy rain contributed. Several times during the race also the safety car went to the track and the ride looked like sight seeing in the streets of Monte Carlo rather than racing. The winner was decided more by the caution and Lewis Hamilton managed to win.
