The intention of this project, that was born in India, is not high revenue, but increasing the living level of the people. India still belongs to developing countries, where only few people can afford a real car with the trim usual in Europe or in America. The ordinary picture in the street is a scooter driven by the father, the older child standing in front of him and behind him sitting the mother with the younger child. The father of this project is Tata company chairman himself, Ratan N. Tata, who decided to change this and offer a secure means of transportation for any weather.

The exact price is still not officially known, because this car is going to be sold not before the half of 2008, but rumours tell the price about 2500 dollars for the basic version. This according to the current dollar course means the price aproximately 45000 CZK. This price is allowed also by the cheap labour force and by the fact, that it is a try to help the people. If something similar was produced in the more advanced countries, the price would be at least twice as high.

The vehicle is 3.1 meters long, 1.5 meters wide and 1.6 meters high. But within the price there are no savings. There are four doors available and whole car is made of steel. Also the safety is important. One cannot expect airbags, but the passengers should be protected at least by crumple zones and resistant doors. The weight is not provided yet.

But the propelling unit is unique. It is a two cylinder engine with the volume of 0.623 liters and power of 24 kW (33PS). The small volume is sufficient for such a small car and should ensure low consumption and emissions. The construction is simplified also by placing the engine to the back of the car and rear wheel drive.

Tata Motors cooperates closely with Fiat and it can be seen also in the model Nano presentation. They want to make a hit from the Nano, similar to the Fiat 500 in Europe in the half of the previous century. It should simply sit India behind the steering wheel. Although it is a very cheap car, it offers great possibilities of personalization. Also two versions will be available. The standard version and the deluxe version.
