F1 - Australian Grand Prix (Melbourne)

Australian Grand Prix is the first race of the year 2008 and is held from Friday 14th till Sunday 16th March 2008, when the main race is run. At late summer on the soutern hemisphere the race for the world champion title begins as well as for the constructors cup. Year 2008 brings again many news, on the other hand it is again more commercial. But the fame of F1 cannot be denied, this most famous formula race has atmoshpere, that we will try to describe at least a bit with every race.

The circuit

The racing track in Melbourne is in fact a city circuit and many its parts serve past the race as an ordinary road. It is located only few kilometers southern from the Melbourne centre and it is interesting also due to the fact, that it surrounds the artificial Albert Park Lake, which makes it picturesque. It is used only once a year just for F1. The track is 5303 meters long, the race is run for 58 laps and thus the total race length is 307.574 km. The pilots consider the track to be fast and although it is a city circuit, the surface is of great quality. But the placement around the lake makes it worse for spectators.

The results

The definite sovereign of the race was Lewis Hamilton, who drove from the pole position for the victory by right. Both Ferraris did not complete and many other drivers ended up prematurely after a collision or due to a technical issue. The first race was from the teams point of view unsuccessfull, but the spectators considered it attractive for sure.

About F1 2008

The year 2008 is run by 11 teams and 22 racing drivers. Contrary to the last year there are also many technical changes. The most serious one is the prohibition of traction control systems and launch control. So the automatics cannot guard any more the wheels spinning under more gas added, as well as it cannot release the clutch during the start. A small tribute to ecology is the necessity to use a bio compound in the fuel, which must have the proportion of at least 5.75 percent. So the engines must be able to handle it.
