F1 - Bahrain Grand Prix (Sakhir)

Next race of the Formula 1 series takes part in a small, but rich kingdom situated on an island in the Persian Gulf. So hot weather is not leaving the racers also here, but they are rewarded by the latest circuit in the series. Bahrain is the fastest growing trading place in the world, which is not only because of the oil industry, but also for example the F1, which can attract by its popularity enormous interest of medias and investors.

The circuit

The official name of the circuit is Bahrain International Circuit and it was opened in 2004. It is situated in the south of the Manama capital city and belongs to the Sakhir municipality. The circuit is 5412 meters long and its width varies from 14 to 22 meters. The race is run for 57 laps and thus its total lenght is 308.238 km.

The place

Bahrain is situated on islands covering the area of about 665 km2 and is the home of about one million people. It was inhabitated long ago and is by many considered to be the place of the Biblical Garden of Eden. Its strategic position in the Persian Gulf attracts many, of course, and thus it has undergone many rules. Today, it is an Arabian country inhabitated mostly by the Muslims. Until about 1930, when the oil reserves were discovered, the main industry branch was pearl diving. The time zone is UTC + 3 hours.

The results

After previous unfinished race in Malaysia Felipe Massa showed up in great condition and after the start from the second position he managed to win the race. His team colleague Kimi Räikkönen finished tight in the second place. Robert Kubica also showed great condition from the last race and as in Malaysia he managed to finish in the second place after starting even from the pole position. Lewis Hamilton finished after a collision with the loss of one lap in the thirteenth place and got no points. So the championship leadership was overtaken by Kimi Räikkönen. Second place was taken by Nick Heidfeld from BMW. Lewis Hamilton has thus currently to be satisfied with the third place in the current points status.

About F1 2008

In the name of increasing the safety, one of the visible changes on the year 2008 monoposts is the higher side padding in the area of the pilot's head. This should increase head protection in the case of side impact.
