NASA: Probe Phoenix has successfully landed on Mars
The years of advance of the previous unsuccessful mission have brought success in the form of perfect landing.

The probe has landed exactly according to the expectations in the middle of the area selected for the landing. So the whole flight corresponded to the computations and also the final flight corrections were not necessary. The main income from this mission is direct water analysis on an extraterrestrial space body for the first time in the history of mankind. The following illustrations show the probe on the Martian surface, the real photos should come later.

The satellites orbiting Mars have proven the presence of water by remote analysis and this probe is equipped with technical means to analyze it directly in place. The base is a robotic arm, which can drill into the surrounding of the probe into the depth of about one meter and take a sample. The exact landing of this probe is very important, because it is not equipped with any means allowing further movement. Because water is considered to be the base of life, the income for the study of possible life on other planets can be of crucial importance. The successful landing using the jet system also opens the possibility for the next planned expedition called Mars Science Laboratory, which is a project of a large autonomous robot at the size of about a SUV car, able to transport itself on the Martian surface and equipped with many devices. The comparison with its successful predecessors offers the following picture, the smallest one is Pathfinder, the middle one represents the Spirit and Opportunity twins and the biggest one is Mars Science Laboratory.
