NASA: The first photos from the Phoenix probe
The first photos prove the successful landing and show the until now unknown polar area.

The photos show successful open out of the solar panels and good probe position on the surface. There are also polygonial shapes visible on the surface, which are presumed to be the sign of ice presence, similarly as in the polar areas on the Earth. The probe should examine right the process of its growth and reactions in different depths. The polar area is also relatively new from the historical point of view, its age is estimated to be from hundreds thousands years till the maximum of several million years. The soil analysis in different depths should make possible the exact age assignation.
